Home theater surround sound systems or any other speaker systems are represented by the number of speakers it contains with a number like 4.1. Here, ‘4’ refers to the number of front and rear speakers that are used by this playback system. ‘.1’ refers to the presence of a low frequency channel (LFC) or a sub-woofer channel. This is an optional channel, in the sense that all the frequencies (even low frequencies) are often diverted to full range front and rear speakers.
