Home Theater Surround Sound Systems: Useful Resources for Buyers

Home theater Surround Sound systems are the rage today. Creating a unique cinematic experience, within the comfort of your home, is possible through Home theater Surround Sound systems and a few other electronic gadgets. A large projection screen with good quality video resolution is a must; however, home theater surround sound systems make the difference between an ordinary television viewing and a truly cinematic experience.

Home theater surround sound systems explained:

Today, a regular television set is likely to offer stereophonic sound. This is the simplest type of sound played back on two speakers. Stereophonic sound is recorded on two mikes on either side of the source of sound. These two mikes are meant to represent the human ears, and when sound is played back from the two speakers, one feels like one was present at the event.

Home theater sound, however, works on the principle of surround sound. Surround recordings move beyond stereophonic sound and record audio on microphones from 3 or more directions. Home theater surround sound systems play back this recording on three or more speakers that, quite literally, surround the audience. Hence, with home theater sound you feel like the event is happening around you.

Home theater surround sound systems or any other speaker systems are represented by the number of speakers it contains with a number like 4.1. Here, ‘4’ refers to the number of front and rear speakers that are used by this playback system. ‘.1’ refers to the presence of a low frequency channel (LFC) or a sub-woofer channel. This is an optional channel, in the sense that all the frequencies (even low frequencies) are often diverted to full range front and rear speakers.
