Shipping rates including overnight shipping rates were previously calculated on the basis of gross weight in kilograms or pounds. Now, the concept of ‘Dimensional Weight’ has been adopted by the transportation industry, establishing a minimum charge for the cubic space a package occupies.

People who have dispatched an item on a ship anywhere in the world have the basic knowledge that the rates (including the overnight shipping rates) vary with shipment. There are certain factors that determine the rate of calculation of international shipping rates:

1. Weight of the item – The item’s weight, combining mass properties with the height, determines the cost of transporting it to its target destination. Crated items are priced on the basis of their length, height and weight. A person can choose to have their shipment positioned on a pallet, generally calculated on the basis of ‘load’, instead of a crate.

3. Type of item – Large structures like cars, furniture and the like will cost more to ship internationally than personal belongings or clothing. A large part of the cost is due to crating of these items, such as shipping a car can cost $5000 or even more.

Note that the overnight shipping rates will be higher than the normal rates (generally, overnight shipping rates are given as part of special/express service). But again, that is the price you have to pay to get your package shipped faster. Besides overnight shipping rates, there are other kinds of rate slabs too (based on how fast you want the delivery).
